El 29 de mayo de 1948, fue declarado el Araguaney árbol Nacional de Venezuela, tras decreto del entonces presidente Rómulo Gallegos. El guayacán amarillo (Handroanthus chrysanthus), es también conocido con los nombres de araguaney, flor amarillo, guayacán, zapatillo, zapito, roble amarillo, cañahuate y tajibo, es un árbol nativo de las selvas de la zona inter-tropical americana.
